1.  Anders Andersson5 Astrom.  (Anders4 Martensson., Marten3 Andersson., Anders2 Martensson., Marten1 Whippa-Olofsson.) was born December 07, 1854 in Asjon, Bygdea, Vasterbotten lan, Sweden and died May 14, 1943 in Salem, McCook, South Dakota.  He married Sophia Augusta Johansdotter on November 02, 1883 in Asjon, Bygdea, Vasterbotten, Sweden, the daughter of Johan Henriksson. and Maria Olofsdotter.  She was born September 25, 1864 in Ostersjo, Degerfors, and died January 01, 1907 in Ramsey Twp., McCook, South Dakota.

Emigrated after compulsory military service to join brothers Johan and Nils in Salem, SD arriving there on the 4th of July 1889 with his wife, his daughter, Hilma, and his widowed mother Elizabeth Burman. They boarded the train in Vasterbotten lan. After a long train ride through Sweden to their southern port city of Goteborg they boarded the ship Romeo for a two day journey to Hull, England.  After docking in Hull, the emigrants went by train across England to their west coast port of Liverpool. There they boarded the big ocean-going ship Adriatic for New York. In 1888, the fee for a 2nd class ticket was 105 Swedish crownes.
 When they arrived the found all homesteads had been taken, so he bought land from Marcus & Flora Russel in 1889 (see map NE S18, T104, R53, Ramsey). Persevering the severe weather, droughts and grasshopper infestations that caused his brothers to move away, disaster struck with the infant deaths of all 14 of their children but three; Sophie, herself died in childbirth.
Anders visited his brother Carl who remained in Sweden in 1913 stopping in Cuba where his late brother, John, had re-emigrated.  Anders lived in Salem with his daughter Hilma Bratmoe until his death.

Sadly, 7 of her 10 children died by 1900; 4 of 4 children die after 1900; in all 11 of 14 children die;Sophie herself died in childbirth 1907 leaving 3 children: Hilma, 19; Arvid, 17; Mayme, 11.
In the period 1889-1897 droughts and a depressed national economy in the 1890s led to the Great Dakota Bust; many settlers left SD before recovery.

2.  Hilma Maria6 Anderson (Anders Andersson5 Astrom., Anders4 Martensson., Marten3 Andersson., Anders2 Martensson., Marten1 Whippa-Olofsson.) was born February 06, 1886 in Asjon, Degerfors, and died October 10, 1959 in Salem, McCook, South Dakota.  She married Ole Bratmoe.  He was born in the 1890s, and is shown in picture with Anders breaking ground to farm; he died circa 1934 from an accident chopping wood before medical aid on his farm in Ramsey, SD.
Notes for Hilma Maria Anderson:
Auntie Hilma lived in Salem, plucking chickens in a meat preparation company and operating a boarding house in the 1930's until her death. Grandpa Anderson stayed there until his death.

He added the initial "H" to his name when another Arvid from Sweden to Ramsey.
Blanche & Arvid are buried in same Cemetery as Vincent Anderson is interred.

She married Benjamin Eugene Howe December 10, 1919 in McCook, South Dakota, son of Olof Howe-Andersson of Norway and Anna Kirkeby.  He was born June 03, 1897 in Ramsey Twp., McCook, South Dakota, and died March 1980 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Ben was Sheriff and County Auditor of McCook County in 1940's-50's after the family left the Center Store in the 1930's. (founded by Nils Petter Andersson) Ben & Mayme were the perfect 'host & hostess with the mostest".

Vince was adopted by Arvid and Blanche as an infant after death of his natural mother in a car accident; A sister Dorothy Hanson Stone Huneke and twin-sister Inez were adopted by others and his brother, Lloyd stayed with his father. Vincent was a bookkeeper of a Miller, SD car dealership and a shipyard welder in the early 40s before drafted; after the war he joined General Motors and rose to Zone Manager for Oldsmobile; died of cancer; interred in crypt at same cemetery as  parents. who adopted him when he was only a baby.

The eldest Lloyd stayed with his  father in Salem until he was grown; never married, lived later  in Palo Alto trailer house. A twin sister to Vince was Inez  Duncan adopted by Floyd Duncan's of Huron, SD. (Vince's older sister, Dorothy Stone adopted by Knute Stone &  Hilda Anderson Stone, sister to Amanda and therefore both  Aunt & Mother to Dorothy. Dorothy  went west pre-WW2 lived in Alameda, CA & Santa Monica CA and now lives with her daughter in Colorado Springs, CO.)
